Bioidentical vs. synthetic — and how therapy works
A plain-language guide to what hormone replacement therapy actually is and what makes the bioidentical approach different.
What is hormone replacement therapy?
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) restores hormones that have declined with age or are out of balance. The goal is simple: bring your levels back into a healthy, optimized range so your body can do what it's designed to do — and so you feel better day to day.
Bioidentical vs. synthetic
The key difference is structure. Bioidentical hormones are molecularly identical to the hormones your body makes, so they bind to your receptors in exactly the same way. Synthetic hormones are slightly different in structure. Many patients prefer the bioidentical approach precisely because it mirrors the body's own chemistry.
How hormones are delivered
There's no single "right" method — only the one that's right for you:
- Pellet therapy — tiny pellets placed under the skin release a steady dose over several months, with nothing to remember day to day.
- Creams & other methods — flexible options that can be adjusted as your needs change.
Kelly will walk you through the pros of each and recommend what fits your routine and goals.
